Cyrill Ibrahim Features in Attitude Magazine
Concert pianist Cyrill Ibrahim is bringing elegance and enlightenment to those with an ear for classical music – Attitude (July/August 2022)
Cyrill Ibrahim has been handpicked to feature on the culture cover page in Attitude, the best-selling gay magazine, for the July/August 2022 edition, celebrating the LQBTQIA2S+ icons leading the way for representation within the music industry. In fact, it is rather rare to have a concert pianist feature in the publication at all, something Cyrill is extremely proud of. Luke Alland was the photographer of both images in this edition.
Attitude magazine was first published back in 1994 and has been a trailblazer in gay representation on the news rack ever since. Over the years, cover stars, a mixture of gay and straight, have included Boy George, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Tom Hardy, and Daniel Radcliffe. Graham Norton and Russell T Davies have contributed to the magazine in the past, while Prince William has even featured – not bad company for Cyrill Ibrahim to keep.
In his double-spread feature within the July/August edition this year, Cyrill was asked about his personal ‘coming out’ experience, to which he explained:
“I never thought of myself as something that needed to be explained: I’m just gay. My mother was very accepting and comforting when I told her. It was not awkward because she was loving. She worried. That’s what all parents do. She was concerned about how the world might react, that perhaps our culture wouldn’t accept me, but that’s been OK. The rest of the family started to realise. One day, I came home with my partner, and everything was OK but there were a few difficult discussions. Better that than no communication.”
